TALLADEGA, Ala. -- Rusty Wallace gave a new meaning to the term "high speed communication" on Wednesday afternoon when he piloted his Miller Lite Dodge at speeds up to 228 mph at Talladega Superspeedway.
"We hit 228 (mph) at the end of the straightaway and averaged 221 (mph) for that overall lap segment," an excited Wallace said late Wednesday as he prepared to head back home to North Carolina. "It was a helluva deal that I certainly will remember for the rest of my life. We'd all been wondering what it would feel like to run at Talladega again without the (restrictor-) plates and now I know. I'll bet we could be running speeds up to 235 (mph) without the plates if we spent time doing some tweaking.......

Also about Rusty this week..
SONOMA, Calif. -- Rusty Wallace posted the fastest lap Tuesday during a NASCAR Nextel Cup test session at Infineon Raceway. The NASCAR Nextel Cup Series will visit the scenic Sonoma Valley later this month for the Dodge/Save Mart 350.
Rusty Wallace
Wallace, a two-time winner at Infineon Raceway in 1990 and 1996, recorded the fastest lap of the five NASCAR drivers at the one-day test session on the newly repaved 10-turn, 1.99-mile road course. Wallace turned the track at 1 minute, 15.5 seconds. Road-course specialist Boris Said holds the official track record of 1:16.522, set in 2003.

Not out - out, just out for Pocono and Sears Point. Rusty was the fastest of the 5 cars that he was testing with, but Martin ran a quicker lap when he was there testing in April.

WOOO HOOOO that's awesome ....I love Daytona and Dega, but would love to see the plates gone......I don't know how many of you were around to remember them without plates ..but it was out and out bone chilling........gave me goose bumps.... still does tho !!!

Yeah,I still have the race on tape when Bobby Allison flew backwards into the catch fence and tore up a bunch of ****!!I believe a few spectators were hurt.Bobby escaped with nothing but a trashed race car!! 1988 I believe was the year.

Since when does a persons apperance have any baring on his abilities or character? You need to find some character...or are you just a cutie yourself? Not saying that Rusty is not good also, but 4dc saying that about looks....please....if we as a society lived by looks alone....my gosh... look at some of our leaders....look at some of our friends, look at some of our families and neighbors....come on....looks have absolutely nothing to do with it and you know it....just cuz you can not make fun of Mark by the way he drives or acts (like a gentleman and role model) does not give you license to make fun of his looks.....Have you ever seen a picture of his kids??? His daughters are pretty nice looking (from a gal's view) and little Matt - well my daughter thinks he is pretty hot...Mark may be short, may be balding, and may have a few wrinkles....but that pretty much describes my husband and I think he is pretty hot!! So for you and anyone else that seems to only live by their eyes, your vision stinks!!

Very true tam dam now you make me feel bad. I will have to admit one of the reasons I bought my son a go kart a couple of years ago was because what mm had done for his boy and damn that kid is good. My son loves go karting to but now don't get to do it often since the divorce.  Mark is not great looking though |

Never said Mark was good looking, but being short, balding and wrinkled does also describe my hubby and to me HE's HOT!!
Mark really deserves much more kudos than he gets from Nascar fans....the things he has done with the sport are unbelievable.....and I didn't really mean to make you feel bad....just please don't knock him....he's one of my all time favorites!!!
