Hey Mac, remember last month I was telling you about joking about earthquakes with someone only to have a big quake happen the next day? Did I mention that was the 2nd time I have joked about earthquakes only to have one happen shortly thereafter?
The reason I bring this up is a few weeks ago I posted a note here about a National Geographic Channel show that was coming up, Naked Science, about super volcanoes and not long after that Mt. Saint Helens started erupting. I'm debating on whether I should mention anything here about the Naked Science show this Wednesday about earth killing asteroids.

A friend of mine had assteroids so bad,she had to have them surgicaly removed!!!She said THEY were pretty KILLER!!!

Hey T&L, just watched another good show on the National Geographic channel last night, Tsunami:Killer Waves. They said that there is a 1 in 10 chance the Pacfic Northwest will get hit by one within the next 50 years. The last killer wave to hit the continental USA was 30 years ago in Cannon Beach, Oregon. The folks in Cannon Beach have a sense of humor. Instead of a siren to warn of a tsunami they play over the loudspeakers a cow mooing.

Lori and I both lived in Crescent City, Calif. (didn't know each then).when tidal wave hit in 1964.. caused by the earthquake in Alaska.
it took out a lot of front street and up in to the town about half a mile.. washed out the new safeway... my dads favorite bar.. killed several people..including my Moms best friends...

while on that suject.....The City of Gold Beach and Curry County last year had some signs put up..(small unobtrusive) showing where to go in case of tidal wave....
Our local do-gooders sued and made them remove the signs for fear it would chase off the tourists.....

Oh, not something I should be joking about then. Sorry.
They did a segment on the wave that hit Cresent City. The police chief at the time said they got a teletype warning of a tsunami due to hit but the time it was expected to hit them was in zulu time. The chief said they had no idea at first what a tsunami was and didn't know how to convert zulu time. When they finally figured out what a tsunami was and when it was going to hit they put out a warning but many people, instead of heading for high ground, went down to the beach to watch it come in.

We have volcano evacuation signs around here. So far nobody as sued to get them removed.
On my way to work I stopped at Fred Meyers and picked up the movie The Day After Tomorrow so tonight I'll be watching worldwide destructon. They had a nice, unexpected special at Fredie's: buy The Day After Tomorrow and get a free Towering Inferno DVD.

Gosh TB, I don't think I want to be responsible for possibly sending tens of thousands of people in the wrong direction during an eruption and if I steal it Rainier will erupt.
On the other hand, I don't have a problem with adding vinyl letters to road signs. Driving into Auburn, population about 45,000, you'll see a sign that says

Draft! is there a drinking problem there in Auburn?
Are you saying there are lots of people there, doing the DWI thing?
How many "Serve and Protect" Types do they employ in Auburn? 13000 good DWI cases could bring them in a easy 100 Mil. And about the signs! Do you really have to warn people not to let a volcano sneek up on them

Not much of drinking problem that I'm aware of, just drug gang related problems which my local police don't seem too concerned about. If you're a right-wing gun owner however they give you a lot of attention.
The problem with Mount Rainier is that it's worst recent episode occured about 3000 years ago and didn't involve an eruption. The volcano used to be 2000 feet higher but a moderate earthquake in the 4 point range caused the summit to collapse resulting in a giant mud flow. Volcanic islands are also known for having parts collapse into the ocean. In the eastern Atlantic is the volcanic island of La Palma which has a large crack running through part of it. Someday part of the island will slide into the ocean and hours later a wave thousands of feet high will hit the American East Coast and continue on to the Ohio area. There is also a large crack in one of the Hawaiian islands that will cause the same thing in the Pacific Ocean.

no problem with the joking Drafters.....the sign removal is pretty much a big joke around here to.... kinda the same group that also votes against any development that might bring in jobs or tourists...
Its A Funny World Today..
at the store today and had to ask if the store supported Bush more than kerry.... they had Bush beans.... but no kerry beans....
the come back... kerry beens had to much gas for most people...
