First Waltrip did it. But I really didn't give a rat's azz about him anyway. But now the 88!!! I was looking into the future to see who I would pick up after Jarrett retired. I doubt I will continue to support the 88 if they go with Toyota. I have stuck by their slumps and poor performance but I just can't accept this. I am an avid Ford supporter too and no, I do not feel Toyota belongs in NASCAR. What's this world coming to??? I was thinking about Smoke but he is not Ford. I think we need some illegal immigrants as drivers. And let's start each race with a Spanish National Anthem. And can the innvocation, we might offend someone.

I'm not bothered by Toyota coming to NASCAR but I can see it both ways. NASCAR is an American series so I think they should stick to American cars and I think it was the internationalization of the open wheel series in America which lost them many of their fans - it's hard to indentify with drivers whose names you can't pronounce. However, all of us old fans are not going to be around forever and with the younger folks into the sports imports I see Toyota coming in as a way to attract those younger folks.

TTMB you might not want to jump on the "Smoke" wagon just yet if Toyota is a problem. Here is a little something I read earlier:

Chevrolet teams are set to form a technical alliance in the near future, combatting the Roush/Yates Ford tandem, increased competition from Dodge, and the impending arrival of Toyota. Hendrick Motorsports, Dale Earnhardt, Inc. and Richard Childress Racing will all be part of the new agreement, while Joe Gibbs Racing will not.
Why? Because General Motors believes the Gibbs team is ready to jump to the Toyota camp next season, with drivers Tony Stewart, Denny Hamlin and J.J. Yeley in tow. My source on this story is well-placed, and the fact that there have been no indignant denials from either Gibbs or General Motors tells me that this is more than just another "uncomfirmed rumor."

I'm with Four Wide. I've never been hung up on the manufacturer thing. Especially nowadays with NASCAR moving towards IROC type cars.
My three favorite drivers are Mark, Tony and Harvick (two Chevy's) and I have been driving Ford F150's for almost twenty years and I always will. There are many variables to consider when we decide who we are going to root for on Saturday nights and Sundays. Personality, driving skills, character, sponsor, etc. I put all of those ahead of the car maker. A lot of my friends are bow tie boys, but nobody gives me any grief because I have a Dale Sr. #3 in my rear window.

Well when I started watching Nascar the manufacturer was an issue when picking my favorite driver. The end of March 1993, I got asked if I was interested in going to the MIS race in June, hadn't really watched much racing before that. At that time the best car I had ever owned was my 73 Pontiac LeMans and Pontiac was an underdog in Nascar with only about 5 drivers if I recall. In April 93 I watched Rusty win three consecutive races in his Miller Genuine Draft Pontiac (Bristol, North Wilkesboro and Martinsville). RUSTY WAS MY MAN! Since then I followed Rusty from Pontiac to Ford and then to Dodge. I currently drive the best car I've ever owned, its a Toyota and with Rusty retired I root for Tony Stewart in a Chevy. So any manufacturer loyalty has long since past away.

I might have to reconsider my favorite driver though

but not because Tony might end up in a Toyota

Unless RCR goes with Toyota, which I don't see happening, Harvick will be driving a Chevy for a few more years.

I was in a new car showrroom the other day and I was wondering where the Nascar stockcars were. I asked the salesman to show them to me because I wanted to buy one "stock." He looked at me and said "kid, the only thing stock on those cars is the nameplate. They are all built in the race shops and hardly resemble at all what is on the showroom floor." So I figured that no matter what "brand" of car any particular driver races, all that is different is where the sponsorship money comes from, and maybe some cosmetic front valence differences and a little "know-how" from the manufacturer's engineers.

I still get a kick out of hearing how a particular brand of racecar "sucks" when they are basically all the same, with only a few minor differences. I have owned Chevys, Fords, Dodges, Pontiacs and a few others and never did I not cheer for my group of favorite drivers and teams because of what I may be driving that particular year. Maybe if I worked for one of the companies I would be biased and root only for one manufacturer, but there is no argument as stale as the whole Ford vs. Chevy racecar debate just because any particular fan may drive a Ford or Chevy truck. Maybe some of you find it a favorite aspect of Nascar but I think it is just silly and has little bearing on the actual technology put into the cars. How cool would it be to once again see a "stock" car series? I know onw thing and it is that Nascar isn't it.

The Chevy versus Ford debate only became stale after it became obvious to even the most diehard Ford fan that Chevy's were superior.

TTMB, I'm on your side

Remember this one?

Joe Smith started the day early, having set his alarm clock (made in China) for 6 a.m. While his coffeepot (made in China) was perking, he shaved with his electric razor (made in Hong Kong). He put on a shirt (made in Sri Lanka), designer jeans (made in Singapore) and tennis shoes (made in Korea). After cooking his breakfast in his electric skillet (made in India), he sat down with his calculator (made in Mexico) to check his budget for the day. After setting his watch (made in Taiwan) to the radio (made in India), he got in his car (made in Japan) and continued his search for an AMERICAN job. At the end of yet another discouraging and fruitless day, Joe decided to relax. He put on his sandals (made in Brazil), poured himself a glass of wine (made in Chile), turned on his TV (made in Indonesia) and wondered why he cannot find a job in America.

When have you seen any Japs at the track?

Let the Americans build it so we can take it over.

The Big 3 ought to dump Brian France and start their own "AMERICAN" racing series, leave him with toyota, mikey, robbie and dale WOO-HOO
