Did anybody watch the Barrett-Jackson auction on speed channel last night?
1 car sold for 3 MILLION dollars
it was kinda funny & intense at the same time.....when the bidding went over the 1 MILLION dollar mark...the 2 main bidder's really started going at eachother verbally....couldn't hear what all they said because they didn't have the bidder's miked...but the one guy went over to the other bidder & said something to the effect "I want this car! Let's go Baby Let's Go!" they were jawing at eachother for a while but, you couldn't hear what all they said The bigest jawer ended up getting the car for 3 MILLION said he is gonna put it in a museum in Colorado

I like living in the shadow of doom. Makes life exciting.
I once checked into getting volcano insurance for my home but discovered they only pay to rebuild your house on it's present location and I figured rebuidling my house on top of a fresh lahar wasn't a good idea. My house in Auburn is areadly on top of the last big lahar from Rainier. At my business in Puyallup I have a great view of Rainier's west flank so if it erupts when I'm at work I can give you all some good up close first hand reports.
Couldn't stay up for the Supervolcano show but I taped it and will watch it tonight. Geologists first discovered in the late 1950's or 60's there had been a hugh eruption in the Yellowstone region but were puzzled because they couldn't find a volcano nearby. It wasn't until they studied NASA images of the region in the 1970's that they discovered the park was the caldera of the volcano they were looking for.
The biggest earthquake in the lower 48 states didn't happen on the West Coast. It was back east and it changed the course of Mississippi River. In fact, somewhere under the Mississippi are the remains of a town.

...."There were several shocks of a day, but lighter than those already mentioned until the 23d of January, 1812, when one occurred as violent as the severest of the former ones, accompanied by the same phenomena as the former. From this time until the 4th of February the earth was in continual agitation, visibly waving as a gentle sea. On that day there was another shock, nearly as hard as the proceeding ones. Next day four such, and on the 7th about 4 o'clock A.M., a concussion took place so much more violent than those that had proceeded it, that it was dominated the hard shock. The awful darkness of the atmosphere, which was formerly saturated with sulphurious vapor, and the violence of the tempestuous thundering noise that accompanied it, together with all of the other phenomena mentioned as attending the former ones, formed a scene, the description of which would require the most sublimely fanciful imagination.
At first the Mississippi seemed to recede from its banks, and its waters gathering up like a mountain, leaving for the moment many boats, which were here on their way to New Orleans, on bare sand, in which time the poor sailors made their escape from them. It then rising fifteen to twenty feet perpendicularly, and expanding, as it were, at the same moment, the banks were overflowed with the retrogade current, rapid as a torrent - the boats which before had been left on the sand were now torn from their moorings, and suddenly driven up a little creek, at the mouth of which they laid, to the distance in some instances, of nearly a quarter of a mile. The river falling immediately, as rapid as it had risen, receded in its banks again with such violence, that it took with it whole groves of young cotton-wood trees, which ledged its borders. They were broken off which such regularity, in some instances, that persons who had not witnessed the fact, would be difficultly persuaded, that is has not been the work of art. A great many fish were left on the banks, being unable to keep pace with the water. The river was literally covered with the wrecks of boats, and 'tis said that one was wrecked in which there was a lady and six children, all of whom were lost.
In all the hard shocks mentioned, the earth was horribly torn to pieces - the surface of hundreds of acres, was, from time to time, covered over, in various depths, by the sand which issued from the fissures, which were made in great numbers all over this country, some of which closed up immediately after they had vomited forth their sand and water, which it must be remarked, was the matter generally thrown up. In some places, however, there was a substance somewhat resembling coal, or impure stone coal, thrown up with the sand. It is impossible to say what the depths of the fissures or irregular breaks were; we have reason to believe that some of them are very deep.
The site of this town was evidently settled down at least fifteen feet, and not more than a half a mile below the town there does not appear to be any alteration on the bank of the river, but back from the river a small distance, the numerous large ponds or lakes, as they are called, which covered a great part of the country were nearly dried up. The beds of some of them are elevated above their former banks several feet, producing an alteration of ten, fifteen to twenty feet, from their original state. And lately it has been discovered that a lake was formed on the opposite side of the Mississippi, in the Indian country, upwards of one hundred miles in length, and from one to six miles in width, of the depth of ten to fifty feet. It has communication with the river at both ends, and it is conjectured that it will not be many years before the principal part, if not the whole of the Mississippi, will pass that way.".....

I saw all of the above programs last night. Tonight the MegaQuake was replayed by the Science Channel, along with the Yellowstone volcano. Since i live in Michigan, i thought for sure that i would have nothing to be worried about.....WRONG!....On the 3rd day or so, the volcanic ash would spread so far & deep, that even if i stayed in this state longer than then a couple hours, i would never get a flight out of town. Something new that i learned about the effects of ash, is that when it is mixed with liquid, it acts like adding water to lime & gauge plaster....the results are obvious. So now i understand why Nascar won't expand in the Great Northwest!

Thanks for the link Boo.
I think the big lesson from that movie is you can't count on the government to save you. Those who will be saved in any big disaster will be those who save themselves. The two most obvious things you will need is food and water. For long term survival get yourself some new 55 gallon plastic drums and fill them with water. Drain and replace the water every year or so. For shorter term put several some one gallon plastic jugs of water in your freezer but don't fill them all the way to the top. This not only gives you an emergency supply of water it will cut down a little bit the amount of energy your freezer uses to keep the freezer cold.
Meals Ready to Eat (MRE) are good for long term storage. Kept in a cool place they can last up to 10 years or longer. Some of them are kind of bland but they don't taste bad and they are better then going hungry or eating beattles and tree bark. Foods in nitrogen packed one gallon air tight tins are also good. Keep in mind you may not have electricity or gas so any survial food you have should be eatable without cooking. http://www.longlifefood.com/
Don't forget to have food on hand for your pets and unless you are prepared to let your friends and neighbors starve to death you might consider buying extra supplies for them.
I highly recommend the book Patriots: Surviving the Coming Collapse by James Wesley Rawles. This is a survival guide and ficitonal story about an economic collapse in America and some of the warning signs leading up to that collapse are occuring in real life today.

One of the best researched books ever, June 1, 2004 Reviewer: Chris J. Hudson "Chris Hudson" (San Antonio, TX, United States) - See all my reviews This book is a real gem. It is both a gripping piece of fiction, as well as a useful resource on survivalism. I would not have thought it possible for a survival book to be so interesting, but this one really is. The storyline itself is very interesting and holds your attention, but in addition to that the book is full of little pearls of wisdom about how and where to acquire things that make one better prepared. When I was in the early stages of the book I was impressed by all of the references. Later when I was most of the way through the book and still kept finding more and more nuggets of wisdom I was truly amazed. The breadth of knowledge displayed by the author on a wide variety of subjects is truly amazing. This book is very well researched, and best of all, it is also very interesting to read. Several years ago this book might have been simply an interesting work of fiction, but now in the post-9/11 world it is something to think seriously about. Also, the opening chapter which focused on the start of the economic crunch reminded me of the summer of 1997 when Asia and Russia's economic crises coupled with the near bankruptcy of a large US firm called Long Term Capital Management and almost sent the world into economic collapse. Add to that some other recent events such as the bursting of the dot com bubble in 2000, the stagnation of the economy shortly after 9/11, and the high gas prices of 2004. It just goes to show, the circumstances in this book are quite possible, more so than any of us would like to admit.

I'm not surprised. There are some things our government and others don't want you to know and this is not the only book you will not be able to order from a book store chain. The government most likely has labeled this book as a "right-wing extremist" handbook which is why the major chains won't touch it. I have a small book called the Citizens Rule Book that explains your rights and has the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution in it and the government government has given it the "right-wing extremist" label.
Here's a little something the mainstream media isn't telling you:
By Kevin DeMeritt © 2003 WorldNetDaily.com
Discussions of the consequences of a weaker dollar are no longer theoretical. Foreign investors are actually starting to sell U.S. dollar-denominated assets. The reason for this paradigm shift, this watershed moment in history, centers on a nasty, four-letter word: debt......
the euro is looking more and more attractive to foreign investors. From an all-time low of $0.83 in October 2000, shortly after the currency's introduction, the euro recently hit a record $1.1977 (topping the previous May 12, 2003, record of $ 1.1558).[I think the Euro is up in the $1.30 range now, Drafters]
This is significant because a rising euro directly threatens the dollar's enduring role as the world's defacto reserve currency (specifically, nearly 70 percent of official exchange reserves are held in dollars).
Possessing the world's reserve currency, it should go without saying, has been a critical advantage to the U.S....
Evidently, this isn't just talk. Mapleleafweb.com also reported that, since 2002, Iran has been shifting the reserves in its Central Bank from U.S. dollars to euros. According to respected analyst, Richard Russell, Russia has also stated that it is thinking of selling its oil in euros instead of dollars. Saudi Arabia would soon follow suit, he believes. Then Russell added:
"There are elements in Europe that would like to give the U.S. its 'comeuppance' ('knocking America off its throne,' in other words). This is impossible from a military standpoint, but not from an economic standpoint. Remember, the reason our nation remains relatively prosperous is that the U.S. owns and creates the world's 'reserve currency.' This allows America to get away with 'economic murder' by paying off its debt with paper that it prints at will and at no cost." http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=35923
Federal Reserve Notes (what is a note? It's an IOU) are not backed by gold or silver and have no intrinsic value. The only value they have is the value people place in them because of what they can buy with them.
"We are absolutely without a permanent monetary system. When one gets a complete grasp of the picture, the tragic absurdity of our hopeless position is almost incredible - but there it is. It is the most important subject intelligent persons can investigate and reflect upon. It is so important that our present civilization may collapse unless it is widely understood and the defect remedied soon." - Robert H. Hemphill, former Credit Manager of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta.

No Drafter I guess I could! However "The Patriot Act" may get me on a list I don't wish to be on, if indeed our government is actively compiling list of what individuals are buying, selling, or reading. Thomas Jefferson must surly be rolling in his grave! I'll get a copy of the book if I have to call Mr. Rawles himself, if he is still with us!

Sidebar.....Drafter have you ever been on your cell phone and for some reason you can hear a conversation of a different party? About a year ago a friend handed me his phone and instructed me to listen to what they were talking about. These two people were talking about a problem with a portion of an Euro plate they were working. I finally asked who is on this line and they replied "This is The Federal Reserve of Atlanta who the hell is this ?" I hung up. Are we making the Euros for them or, are we making some for us?

I don't know what to make of that conversation you overheard. The U.S. Mint is selling a two coin collectors set that includes an uncirculated Euro but that wouldn't have anything to do with the Federal Reserve Bank. A good way to ruin a countries economy or destablize a government is to flood the country with conterfeit money and our CIA has done this to destablize governments that don't serve the best interests of our government, or what the CIA thinks is in our best interests. Maybe the Fed is going to give it a try or give some payback since it's been done to us also.

I just ordered the Patriot book by James Wesley Rawles at Borders Books in my neighborhood store. It will take 4 to 6 weeks to arrive. I did a Yahoo search and the rest is history. It also can be ordered at Barnes & Noble, if anyone is interested. After all the prior trouble i had receiving an order of a pc racing game through Amazon, i elected to go local. My full chemical (Anthrax) equiptment suit i ordered comes with a very heavy price tag though. The suit that i have now, covers only asbestos removal. All those affected by the summer time Blackout in the Midwest, East & Canada a few years ago, have a general idea of what they DIDN'T have, when the power was out. I was really suprised that there was no reports of looting, deaths due to heat stroke, among other illegal activities, because no store alarms worked. Then the sale of generators locally at Home Depot, and others were sold out within a few hours. I had neighbors who were on breathing apporatis (spell) or were out of medications and such. I am better prepared in case an emergency like having no water, no MRE's, little petroleum & other things we need to survive. ATM's were also useless with no power. Another thing that was rendered useless was cell phones...too much traffic. The blackout hit during the late afternoon, causing hundreds to be trapped in elevators. Pharmacies were guarded by employees, so those who had ideas of free pills and such were stymied. The drug stores were accepting patients with old bottles with refills, on a cash only basis.....etc...etc...If my lousy fantasy race team is any indication of what's to come, then my being as prepared for emergencies after the blackout than to prior.....i'll probably get hit by a bus soon.
