Try refreshing your screen every few minutes and you will eventually get it. Nothing much happening right now. Geologists say this was a "burp." Mostly steam with some ash ejected so I don't think you'll have much ash coming your way. Geologists right now don't know what to expect next.

I couldn't get Dafters links to work either. I am guessing that those website are very busy right now. I am watching Seattle TV online...KING5.com.
I have family in Seattle so trying to keep informed on it.
Thanks for the links though Drafters, they all worked before this "burb".

I'm real disapointed! I have a good view of the volcano and clear blue skies but I was listening to CD's when it happened and didn't learn about it until after the big stuff happened. By the time I went outside all I saw was a haze drifting away from it. If you go to Boink's page and look at my picture Saint Helens would be straight behind me. That picture was taken about 50 feet from my best viewpoint of the volcano.

T&L, Just did a web search to see were Gold Beach is located. It looks like you are far enough south were the ash won't infringe on your "salty seaside relaxation."
BTW, Rucus over at FC is one of your fellow Oregonions. He deserves ash.

WOW! Check out these readings from Saint Helens. http://www.pnsn.org/WEBICORDER/GREEN/CDF_EHZ_UW.2004100200.html
Now I'm concerned. Saint Helens isn't a theat to me but Rainier is and I don't like what I'm seeing here. http://www.pnsn.org/WEBICORDER/GREEN/LON_EHZ_UW.2004100200.html
SEATTLE -- Mount St. Helens quieted down after spewing a plume of steam and ash, but only briefly. By Saturday morning, seismic energy releases at the peak were 10 percent higher than they were before the steam blast.
"We believe the system is pressurizing," said Jeff Wynn, chief scientist for volcano hazards at the U.S. Geological Survey's Cascades Volcanic Observatory in Vancouver, Wash., about 50 miles south.
Scientists said there could be more steam eruptions soon at the volcano, which erupted to devastating effect in May 1980. Nothing of that magnitude is anticipated.
The volcano system essentially resealed itself after blowing off steam and ash Friday, said geologist Dan Dzurisin at the observatory.
The ramping up of seismic activity Saturday indicates "we're right back in line as if that" - Friday's eruption - "didn't happen, said Bill Steele at the University of Washington's seismic lab.........

After todays steam eruption geologists say a deep, harmonic earthquake lasting one hour occured indicating magma is moving up. This has caused geologists to raise the alert level to "imminent eruption" and the immediate area around the volcano has been evacuated. I'm really into volcanoes so this is exciting for me. If it hasn't erupted by tomorrow morning I might just tape the race and head for Saint Helens in the Daewoo but first I have to dig my Camaro's car cover out of the closet. T T&L, the last time this happened I had to wrap toliet paper around my air filter element to keep the ash out. Have plenty of toliet paper handy in case it comes your way. |

the last time this happened... My brother lived in castle rock, washington and he wound up using LOTS of toliet paper..lol.. and Lori and I were living in alaska and were flying down from Juneau to do our pre wedding party at her folks place and had to fly way out over the ocean from normal flight route.... the ash was still in the air.. and we used a lot of toliet paper at the wedding ...before ..during... after.. and since... guess any time theres a eruption.. you got to grap for the tissue. I did some timber falling after the 1980 erution on the tutle and it was just to hard on chainsaws.. I left before they came up with new air cleaners

I'm not in danger unless it sends a big ash cloud my way. Mt. Rainier is another story though being as how my house is built on top of the last giant mud flow 3000 years ago when the top 2000 feet of the mountain collapsed and came through the valley my town is located in. Rainier last erupted in the 1850's while Saint Helens was also erupting. If a mudfow did come Kasey Kahne's hometown of Enumclaw would get buried about 30 minutes before it got to me.
Wheelie, I thought I heard someone say during a USGS press conference yesterday a bulge is devloping on one of the Three Sisters. Have you heard anything about this? How far are you from the Three Sisters?

| The Three Sisters? Tres hermanas? They are located in Baja...just south of San Felipe! Roughest stretch of the Baja 1000, but the most beautiful of views looking out over the gulf waters! |

Wheelie, I was doing some R&D work for Weyerhauser in their foresty labs in Centralia during the first 5 1/2 months of 1980. I left that job one week before the eruption. I'd take a hour break and cruise up towards St. Helens for lunch but I missed the thrill of a lifetime by one week!

Remmey, Oregon also as a Three Sisters located west of Bend and East of Eugene. Just broke out my map and I see Wheelie has nothing to worry about from the Sisters. Other then ash Wheelie should be safe from volcanoes. However, a 1000 foot high tsunami from a meg-thrust quake would be a severe problem for him.
