Heavy, Re: No Disco ever.
I had a close encounter of the disco kind once. In the city of Seattle there were some disco clubs but the rest of the region was rock-n-roll country. When I worked at Seattle International Raceway we several times had a band perform after the end of a race (once Bill Haley and the Comets) and during one race the General Manager decided to bring a disco band up. They only played for about five minutes before the crowd started throwing bottles, cans and rocks at the band forcing them off the stage and then, when the music stopped, a full fledged riot broke out. They tried to storm the drag tower but the folks inside got all the doors locked and then called out on the PA system for all the rent-a-cops to come to the tower. However, with all the rent-a-cops at that end of the track the finish line area were my house was located was now wide open to the rioters so I headed that way to protect my home. When I got there I put on my shoulder holster and stood on my front porch guarding my home. While standing on my porch I watched a naked women running down the track with a large group of men chasing her followed shortly thereafter by a guy on a Harley who dumped it bad and then comes hopping up to my porch with half his foot gone.
Sometimes I miss those days and sometimes I don't. |

| Man, you must really live close to the track, Wish I did,( though from your post(aka Disco) I guess all things have some sort of downside, Closest track to me besides a Dragway (Atco) is Nazereth Speedway, which is no longer even running Busch (this year was the last). It's a shame too, was a pretty deceny track, both for drivers and fans! |

I lived right on the track for 6 of the 10 years I worked there and my front porch was about 100 feet from the drag strip finish line and the road race start/finish line. I did most of my work before the drag racing started so during the drag races I could hang out at my house, have a party at my house or pretty much go anywhere on the track to watch the racing. On the weekends when we didn't have a big event we rented out the track to road race and car clubs and I had to manage the track on those weekends. Exccept for those occasional moments of terror it was a great experiance.
One of the things I really miss are those times standing on my porch when a beautiful gal would come up to my gate and ask if she could join me. One of the things I don't miss, besides the riots, is getting the track closed up at 1am Sat. and then opening the track at 5am or 6am for whoever is renting the track and then dealing with them, then getting them out of the track before 5pm when our Sat. night bracket drags took place, then closing the place up around 1am Sunday morning and and then opening the track at 5am or 6am for whoever is renting the track.
