6th Place Bobby Labonte...-381
10th Place...Kevin Harvick...-451 after Daytona 10th Place...Kevin Harvick...-401 after Infineon 11th Place...Kasey Kahne...- 399 After Michigan 11th place...Jamie McMurray...-443 After Pocono 11th Place...Jamie McMurray...-431 After Dover 13th Place...Rusty Wallace.....-417 After Lowes 15th Place...Sterling Marlin.....-413 After Richmond 19th Place...Joe Nemechek.....-412 After Talladega 24th Place...Brian Vickers.......-409 After Marty 31st Place...Ricky Craven.......-404 After Bristol 37th Place...Michael Waltrip....-421 After Darlington 36th Place...Michael Waltrip....-409 After Atlanta
Every week the 400 points mark will start moving forward closer to the top ten positions, and we will watch Drivers and Teams squirm. That will make for real nice desperation moves.

That's my problem with the whole situation. Why should they be rewarded the highest honor when they didn't accomplish as much? Under this current system, Ryan Newman could have easily took the Championship last year. He had a ton of DNF's at the beginning of the season but all those wins at the end of the season that would have guaranteed him to be Champion. Matt however showed consistent racing so won. So, goof off half the season, do great the last part of it, and you to can be a Championship NASCAR driver now. |

Posted - 06/17/2004 : 10:44:17 AM Another stupid Nascar decision. Although I'm all for more excitment during the races, the overall idea of the change is stupid. Anyway, look at what's been happening as drivers get more agressive. They get crucified in the media and penalized by Nascar.
Way to go Brian and Mike. Another stellar performance!!!!

Posted - 06/17/2004 : 10:28:43 AM The new system sucks and that is putting it nicely. The Championship has always been there to reward the team that works the hardest and is the most consistent throughout the season. Now, you can bust your rears the first 26 races only to have your lead taken away. Then, anyone in the top 10 or within 400 points of the leader can have a chance to come back and win with just 10 races. It's not fair to the teams that work the hardest to have it all taken away. Basically, I think they are sending the message that you don't have to do your best for most of the season because even someone doing a mediocre job can have the same benefits as someone going all out at the end. |

Posted - 06/17/2004 : 10:24:45 AM the race to be in that 400 point area is pretty much over... now the race is going to be between those in say 5th on down and 14th or so just to get or stay in that top 10 playoff area

Posted - 06/07/2004 : 11:29:20 AM I still don't like this new 10 race playoff. How serious of a NASCAR fan can one be if they quit watching the races when the NFL starts. Seems to me they're trying to attract the part-time fans and turning their backs on the full time fans.
To make the Super Bowl more interesting towards the end in a blowout maybe when the 4th quarter starts they should adjust the score so the leading team is only 5 points ahead.
If it wasn't for my fantasy teams I don't think I'd be watching much NASCAR this year.

Posted - 05/19/2004 : 2:53:18 PM YEP ,I kinda get to thinking like FOUR WIDE is saying... but I always get back to thinking like T&C.... any way they change it.,as long as they race. and the races are as they have been.. and are now.. I will enjoy it.... but if the big sponsors start leaving I don't think the races will be fun to watch .. I think then ASA or ARCA will be more fun..(they put on some pretty cool races anyway.)

Posted - 03/29/2004 : 5:22:16 PM I am still against the new point system... Just making it harder to get sponsors... And without them, we all know what will happen t the series. Say hello to C.A.R.T.(bankrupt, no sponsor $$$ rolling in) ... Or we could just go the way of F1 and watch the same guy (or team) win week in and week out.... and on the odd occasion he breaks we can see someone else win... NASCAR (Brian) is trying to milk every bit of $$ he can out of the series...

Posted - 03/25/2004 : 5:17:34 PM Back when I first heard they were gonna change the points system this year I did not like it at all, My attitude was "why fix it, if it ain't broke?" Now that the've done it, its starting to grow on me some what. Afterall it is what it is, if I wanna keep watchin it, I gotta take it as they are serving it up. It really should make for some intense races when it starts getting close to race 26.
Everybody has there own opinion about why they did this, The Kenseth situation last year was the obvious. But I also believe they lose a lot of viewers when The NFL season starts in September and they did this to try to keep some of those. What they should do in my opinion is make all the races on Saturday Nights from September on, I for 1 absolutely Love the Sat. Night Races anyway.
Ya know whats FUNNY Though, when they 1st announced they were gonna make changes to the points system, 1 of my biggest concerns was; OH NO, WHATS THIS GONNA DO TO MY FANTASY NASCAR LEAGUES!!!!! hehehehe Fortunately, all they did with that was give 5 more points to the winner of each race |

Posted - 03/25/2004 : 4:20:22 PM I agree TB. That's the one piece of this "Chase for the Championship" that I like. I think it will make for better, more aggressive racing.
