Johnny Benson won the 125 lap feature tonight at his home track, Berlin Raceway, in Marne, Michigan. Benson, in his self built Valvoline #10 car, took the lead at lap fifty something and held off a valiant charge by a bunch of guys with Dutch names. Johnny started 10th and worked his way to the front and stayed there. Unfortunately, Michael Waltrip, who made the trip with Johnny, could'nt get tuned into the half mile oval. Waltrip, driving the familiar #15 NAPA Auto Parts ride, started in 19th place and finished 16th. He never was a factor.
But man, is he a great guy. He came to our "barn", which was rented by a rich Dutch friend of mine, and signed autographs for almost an hour. I got my 1/24th Action, NAPA car signed, and mentioned to him about our Fantasy Thunder group donation to Victory Juntion Camp. He replied, "Y'all are doin' doing a great thing". Mikey is a big supporter of VDC. I met Johnny too, but every piece of Johnny stuff I have is already signed. It was a great night here in west Michigan. Rain was in the forecast, but we saw narry a drop. As I bang this post out, both Johnny and Mikey are still signing autograghs for some more drunk Dutch people. I think Bruski was there but we did'nt hook up. Friday, I'm off to Brooklyn, MI for the big weekend. Meeting up with Bruski, Four Wide and Paul & Val. If I can get my paws on a laptop, I'll send a report on Sunday night. I kinda like this reporting stuff.

As much as we love, or love to hate some of these drivers, it's nice to know that when you meet them, they're just real people like you and me.
Sounds awesome RKR, have a great time at the race.

| You have to love the drivers taking the time out to come to the local tracks. Ken Schrader and Kenny Wallace come to ours every year. Its nice to see them away from the big media events where you can meet and talk to them one on one like normal folks. |

| You betcha I was there too, roadkill. I wore an old (vintage 1994) Micheal Waltrip tshirt, he drove the #30 Pennzoil Grand Prix back then (the ride Johnny B broke into the Cup series in). Got Mikey's autograph, at the NAPA sales trailer, on an 8x10 I took at MIS last August. It was a great night of racing at Berlin with near perfect weather. I'll be headin' down to MIS in the morning, hope to catch you there! |

Keep your eye on ole Mickey at Michigan. Last year he started 9th and finished 5th (Spring)
(Fall) he started 13th and finished 7th. He could get his car hooked up and finish well into the top 10. Definitely a thought for trades.
