2004 2nd Half Driver Tiers are listed at the bottom of the page
How are Driver Values established?
Driver Values for the 2nd Half of the 2004 Season are normally based on the points standings from the 2004 Nextel Cup Points Standings. Due to driver changes and other variables this is not always the case.
The idea is for there to be a challenge to picking a driver. No driver should be priced so high that no team owner will want them. Nor, should a driver be priced so low so that all team owners will want them.
The highest starting value for the 1st Half is $2,200,000. The lowest starting value is $350,000.
How long are the starting values good for?
The starting values are good for the first 3 races only. Thereafter they will change every race. They will change based on finishing position from the previous race. A good finish will always increase a driver's value. A low finish will decrease a driver's value.
Value changes are easy to follow. When making your trades for race 3 look back to race 2. Any driver who had a good finish in race 2 and you have them on your team for race 3 will go up in value. If a driver had a bad finish in race 2, and you have them on your team for race 3 expect a decrease in value when the values come out for race 4. Follow the same pattern for the entire 18 race season.
If my Team Value goes over $10,000,000 do I have to trade for cheaper drivers?
No. After the first value change most teams will be worth more then $10,000,000 in value. The easiest way to figure your trades is as follows.
Race 1 Amount Spent. $9,950,000 on your eight drivers. Bank Balance of $50,000. The Bank Balance carries over to the next race to be used for future trades. Race 2 Trade 3 drivers worth $2,500,000. You can then pick up 3 drivers worth $2,550,000. $2,500,000 for the current drivers traded plus the Bank Balance of $50,000 carried over from the 1st race. If you were to pick up drivers worth $2,300,000 you would then have a Bank Balance of $250,000 for the next race. Follow the same procedure for the entire 18 race season.
Driver Tiers
Driver tiers are designed to handicap the value changes based on a drivers normal finishing position. A driver who normally runs in 35th position should not be penalized as bad as a driver who normally runs in the top 5 for a 35th place finish.
